Bull Rock Lighthouse

The Bull Rock Lighthouse is an active aid to navigation located 4 km off Dursey Island, Ireland, in the Atlantic Ocean. The lighthouse was built in 1888 and lit in 1889, and it is an octagonal structure made of rubble masonry, Portland cement, and granite dressings. The lighthouse stands at a height of 22 feet and was designed by William Douglass at a total cost of £29,000.

The history of the Bull Rock Lighthouse is interesting, as it is the second lighthouse to be constructed in this location. The first lighthouse was built on nearby Calf Rock in 1866, but it was destroyed by a violent storm in 1881. The new lighthouse was built on Bull Rock, and it has been in operation since 1889. The rock itself is unique, with a hole that traverses all the way through the islet, and it is said to be the "house of the dark one" or the "house of Donn" in Irish mythology.

The Bull Rock Lighthouse was automated in 1991 and is still an active aid to navigation today. The rock is uninhabited and can only be visited by boat tours around the rock. The lighthouse has a rich history, and its construction was a result of the need for a light on Bull Rock. The current lighthouse has been in operation for over 130 years, and it continues to serve as an important aid to navigation for ships and sailors in the Atlantic Ocean.
