Delimara Lighthouse (New)

The Delimara Lighthouse is an active lighthouse located in Marsaxlokk, Malta, on the southern end of the island. The lighthouse stands 18 meters tall and has a focal height of 35 meters, providing a range of 18 nautical miles. It is a two-story building with observation windows, roof-mounted radar, and aerials, and is used for coastal traffic control.

The current lighthouse was built in the 1990s, while the original lighthouse was constructed in 1855. The original lighthouse is still present and near the contemporary rectangular tower that was inaugurated in 1990. The lighthouse has views of Marsascala and Birżebbuġa, and is close to Saint Peter's Pool.

The Delimara Lighthouse has a rich history, dating back to the mid-19th century. The first lighthouse was constructed in 1855, during the time of British rule on the islands, and produced a constant red light powered by olive oil lamps. The light system was later replaced in 1896 with a rotating optic system supplied by the Chance Brothers, which used a Fresnel lens to produce an alternating red and white flash every thirty seconds. The lighthouse continued in operation until 1990, when it was deactivated and later renovated by Din l-Art Helwa.
