Denis Lighthouse is situated on Denis Island, which is the second northeasternmost island in the Seychelles. The island is located approximately 60 kilometers north of Mahé and is part of the Inner Islands. The lighthouse was built in 1910, replacing an earlier structure that was constructed in 1883. It features a 2-stage skeletal tower with a balcony and lantern, made of metal.
The lighthouse stands on the northern edge of the island, which is privately owned and has a small population of around 80 people. The island has a holiday resort with 23 guest chalets and a short airstrip, as well as a chapel named Chapel St. Denis. The island is also home to an abundance of coconut palms, Takamaka, and Casuarina trees, and has been designated as a site for conservation projects, including the relocation of Seychelles fodies and Seychelles warblers.
The lighthouse has an interesting history, with the island being named after the French Navy officer Denis de Trobriand, who explored it in 1773. Today, the lighthouse remains a part of the island's landscape, serving as a notable feature of the small island. The island's remote location and limited population make it a unique and secluded destination, with the lighthouse being one of its most recognizable landmarks.
