Farolim de Sagres/Farol da Ponte de Sagres

The Farolim de Sagres, also known as the Farol da Ponta de Sagres, is a lighthouse located in Sagres, Portugal, along the coastal peninsula of Cape St. Vincent. It was first built in 1894 and has undergone several changes over the years. The current lighthouse was inaugurated in 1960 and features a square tower with a balcony and lantern, standing at a height of 13 meters with the light located at an altitude of 53 meters.

The lighthouse has a range of 20 kilometers and is characterized by a luminous red beacon that flashes at a two-second interval. The building consists of a rectangular tower with a single-story annex for the residence of the lighthouse-keeper and storage of material. The lighthouse was automatized in 1979 and has been controlled from a distance since 1983.

The lighthouse has an interesting history, having been part of the commemorations marking the birth of Henry the Navigator in 1894. Over the years, it has undergone several upgrades, including the installation of a new optical lamp in 1923 and the transfer of ownership to the Ministry of the Navy between 1947 and 1949. Today, the lighthouse remains an important aid to navigation and a notable landmark in the region.
