The Flatøy Lighthouse is located in Steigen Municipality in Nordland county, Norway, on the island of Store Flatøya in the southeastern part of the Vestfjorden. It was first built in 1882, but the original building was torn down and replaced in 1966. The new tower, which is attached to the original lighthouse keeper's house, is about 16 meters tall with an octagonal concrete structure that is white with a red roof.
The 1966 lighthouse was automated, but it was decommissioned in 2006 when a new, smaller light tower was built about 100 meters north of the old station. The new tower is approximately 7 meters tall and has a light that sits at an elevation of 44 meters above sea level, with a red or white flash every five seconds, depending on direction.
The Flatøy Lighthouse has an interesting history, with its original building being replaced in 1966 and then decommissioned in 2006. Despite being decommissioned, the old lighthouse station still stands, and the original keeper's house remains, attached to the 1966 tower. The lighthouse is now a part of Norway's rich maritime history, and its location on the Vestfjorden makes it a notable landmark in the region.
