The Isola Santa Eufemia Lighthouse is located on the islet of Santa Eufemia, between the rocks of Santa Croce and San Francesco, opposite the town of Vieste in Apulia, Italy. The lighthouse was built in 1867 and features an octagonal tower made of limestone, standing 27 meters high with a focal height of 40 meters. The tower is unpainted and has a grey lantern, emitting three white flashes every 15 seconds, visible up to 25 nautical miles.
The lighthouse has a strategic position for shipping lanes in the middle and lower Adriatic Sea. It was automated in 1997 and is currently operated by the Marina Militare, the Italian Navy's lighthouse service. The lighthouse is managed by the Command Area Lighthouses Navy based in Venice and is one of the many lighthouses along Italy's 8000-kilometer coastline that the Marina Militare has been responsible for since 1910.
The Isola Santa Eufemia Lighthouse has an interesting history, having been designed by Francesco Saverio Gatta and built on a two-story keeper's house. The lighthouse receives its electricity from an overhead powerline from the Italian mainland and is also equipped with a DGPS-transmitter. Today, the lighthouse remains an active aid to navigation, playing a crucial role in ensuring the safety of ships and sailors in the Adriatic Sea.
