Kralendijk Lighthouse

The Kralendijk Lighthouse, also known as Fort Oranje Lighthouse, is an active lighthouse located in the town of Kralendijk, Bonaire, in the Caribbean Netherlands. It was built in 1932 on the grounds of Fort Oranje, a 17th-century fort. The lighthouse has a square tapered truncated tower with a balcony and light, and it is painted ochre. The history of the lighthouse dates back to 1639 when the Dutch West India Company constructed Fort Oranje, which served as a military fortress until 1837. A wooden lighthouse tower was built inside the walls of the fort around 1868, but it was replaced by a stone lighthouse in 1932. Today, the lighthouse is still operational and serves as the harbor master's office, managed by the Bonaire Port Authority.

The lighthouse has a unique characteristic, emitting a brief white flash of 0.2 seconds per 2-second period. Its range is approximately 9 kilometers, making it an important aid to navigation for ships approaching the island's port. The lighthouse is also a notable landmark in Kralendijk, situated near the cruise terminal and the maritime passenger terminal, and it is a popular spot for tourists to visit and admire its historic significance and stunning views of the surrounding area.
