Langness Lighthouse is located on Dreswick Point, the southernmost point of the Isle of Man's main island, near the town of Castletown. The lighthouse was built in 1880 and stands 19 meters tall, guiding boats into Castletown harbor. It features a cylindrical tower with a balcony and lantern, marked by a white tower and black lantern. The lighthouse is automated since 1996 and is a registered building on the Isle of Man.
The lighthouse has an interesting history, with a previous landmark known as the Herring Tower holding a lighted flare to guide fishing boats. The lighthouse was also featured in an episode of Top Gear, in which the host Jeremy Clarkson owned the lighthouse keeper's cottages. Nearby the lighthouse is a turf-covered mound known as the Potato Grave, which commemorates the 32 Irish workers who lost their lives in 1832 when their ship was lost at sea.
Today, the lighthouse is managed by Langness Lighthouse Cottage, and its unique features make it a notable landmark on the Isle of Man. Visitors can explore the surrounding area, which includes the Herring Tower and the Potato Grave, offering a glimpse into the island's history and maritime past.
