The One Fathom Bank Lighthouse is located in the Strait of Malacca, specifically on a shoal within Malaysian waters, off the coast of the state of Selangor. The lighthouse has a long history, dating back to 1852 when a lightship was first stationed at the site. A permanent screw-pile lighthouse was built in 1874, which was later replaced by a concrete pile lighthouse in 1907. The 1907 lighthouse was then superseded by a larger modern counterpart in 1999.

The One Fathom Bank Lighthouse is a cylindrical tower with a triple balcony and lantern, made of concrete. The lighthouse is only accessible by boat, and while the site is open to visitors, the tower itself remains off-limits. The lighthouse has been referred to as the "old" One Fathom Bank Lighthouse and the "new" One Fathom Bank Lighthouse, due to the two separate structures that have been built over the years.

The history of the One Fathom Bank Lighthouse is interesting, with the site first being reported by John Turnbull Thomson, a hydrographic surveyor, in the mid-19th century. The shoal was originally known as 2 and 1/2 Fathom Bank, due to its sandbank that emerged during low tide with water depths of less than two and a half fathoms. The British Government of India in Bengal initially sent buoys to mark the site, but later decided to place a lightship, and eventually a screw-pile lighthouse, to aid navigation in the area.
