Paard van Marken

The Paard van Marken lighthouse is located on the Dutch peninsula of Marken, on the IJsselmeer. It was built in 1839 by J. Valk, replacing a primitive lighthouse that had been on the location since the early 18th century. The lighthouse is a cylindrical tower with a balcony and lantern, made of brick, and stands at a height of 15.5 meters.

The Paard van Marken lighthouse has a distinctive white tower and lantern with a red lantern dome, and its light has an intensity of 4,400,000 candela, with a range of 9 nautical miles. The lighthouse has been a listed building, or Rijksmonument, since 1970, and is currently inhabited, which means it cannot be visited by the public.
