The lighthouse is a 22-meter-tall square pyramidal skeletal tower with a central cylinder, double balcony, and lantern. It features a white tower with a red balcony and lantern, and has a focal height of 26 meters. The light source emits a white light with a range of 14 nautical miles and a characteristic of 1.5 seconds on and 2 seconds off. The lighthouse is managed by the Latvian authorities and is part of the country's maritime heritage.
The Pape Lighthouse has an interesting history, as it was known as a boundary beacon during the early 20th century, guiding ships to the port of Liepāja, which was on the border of the Russian Empire and Prussia. Today, the lighthouse is closed to visitors, although it has been the subject of folklore expeditions, including a stay by the famous Latvian composer Emilis Melngailis.
