Ponta da Escuma Lighthouse

Ponta da Escuma Lighthouse stands on the western tip of Ilhéu de Sal Rei, a small uninhabited islet just off the coast of Boa Vista island in Cape Verde. The islet lies about 1 km southwest of the island capital Sal Rei. The surrounding waters are part of the Atlantic Ocean.

The present aid to navigation consists of a cylindrical metal mast standing 7.9 m tall on a concrete base, topped with a balcony and lantern. Its focal plane is 28 m above sea level, and the light has a nominal range of 11 nautical miles. The characteristic is five flashes of white or red light every twenty seconds, the colour depending on the bearing. The light is powered by a solar unit.

The original structure was erected in 1888 as a concrete staircase about 5 m high supporting a light at its summit. Later the staircase was replaced by the metal mast that gives the lighthouse its current shape.

The beacon continues to be listed as active by the National Geospatial‑Intelligence Agency and carries the Admiralty number D2918 and the country number PT‑2106. The lighthouse sits on an uninhabited islet.
