The Porto di Po di Goro Lighthouse is a significant structure located on the Isola dell'Amore in the Adriatic Sea, marking the northernmost point of Emilia-Romagna, near the border with Veneto, and the delta of the Po river. It was first built in 1862, but due to the changing course of the river, it was replaced by another lighthouse that was eventually destroyed in 1945.
The current lighthouse was built in 1950 and features a cylindrical tower with a balcony and lantern attached to a 2-storey keeper's house made of red bricks. The tower stands at a height of 17 meters, with the lantern positioned at 18 meters above sea level, emitting two white flashes every 10 seconds, visible up to a distance of 17 nautical miles. The lighthouse is fully automated and operated by the Marina Militare.
The lighthouse has an interesting history, with the original structure being replaced due to the river's changing course, and the subsequent lighthouse being destroyed during World War II. The current structure has undergone changes, including the removal of its red and white horizontal bands, and is now used as an aid to navigation, with the identification code number 4072 E.F. Today, the Porto di Po di Goro Lighthouse remains an active and important landmark in the region, aiding in the safe navigation of the Adriatic Sea.
