Portoferraio Lighthouse

Portoferraio Lighthouse, also known as Faro del Forte Stella, is located in Portoferraio, Elba, Tuscany, Italy. The lighthouse was built in 1788 by Leopold II Grand Duke of Tuscany and has undergone restoration in 1915. It is a cylindrical tower made of light stone, standing at 25 meters high with a double balcony and lantern.

The lighthouse is fully automated and operated by Marina Militare, emitting a group of three white flashes in a 14 seconds period, visible up to 16 nautical miles. An additional light on the same tower emits a red fixed light to warn ships about the Capo Bianco shoal. The lantern is situated at 63 meters above sea level.

Portoferraio Lighthouse is of significant historical importance, situated on the northern rampart of Forte Stella, a 16th-century fortification built by Cosimo I de' Medici. The lighthouse remains a crucial maritime aid to navigation, guiding ships safely through the waters around Elba Island.
