Punta Abona Lighthouse is an active lighthouse located on the south-eastern coast of Tenerife in the Canary Islands, Spain. It is situated between Abades and Poris de Abona, in the municipality of Arico. The lighthouse was originally built in 1902 as part of the first maritime lighting plan for the Canaries, and it was replaced by a new modern tower in 1976.
The current tower is a 39-meter-high cylindrical structure with a distinctive double balcony and lantern, standing out with red and white bands. It has a focal height of 54 meters above sea level, allowing its light to be seen for up to 17 nautical miles. The lighthouse emits a characteristic white light with three flashes every 20 seconds. The lightsource is not specified, but it has a range of 17 nautical miles.
The Punta Abona Lighthouse has an interesting history, with the original structure being partially restored in 2003 as part of a training program for unemployed youths. The plan was to convert the building into an academy for hotel staff, but it seems to have been delayed or abandoned due to lack of investment. The lighthouse is maintained by the Autoridad Portuaria de Santa Cruz de Tenerife and is registered under the international lighthouse directory as ES-12870.
