Rockabill Lighthouse is an active 19th-century lighthouse situated off the east coast of Skerries, County Dublin, Ireland. It lies on the larger of the two islands that form Rockabill, approximately 5 kilometers from the shore. The lighthouse is maintained by the Commissioners of Irish Lights.
The Rockabill Lighthouse was constructed between 1855 and 1860 using granite from the Mourne Mountains in County Down and limestone from Milverton. The total cost of construction was £13,248. The lighthouse features a cylindrical tower with a gallery and lantern, standing 32 meters high, including the gallery and lantern. The focal plane of the lantern is 45 meters above sea level, with a white tower bearing one broad, black, horizontal band.
In 1989, the lighthouse became automated, marking a significant change in its operation. The lighthouse has a rich history, with a proposed construction in 1837 that was initially declined by Trinity House. However, the decision was reversed in 1853, and construction began shortly after. The lighthouse began operation on July 1, 1860. Today, the Rockabill Lighthouse remains an active aid to navigation, with a distinctive white and black color scheme visible to mariners and visitors alike.
