Tuskar Rock Lighthouse

The Tuskar Rock Lighthouse is a granite tower standing 34 meters tall, located on Tuskar Rock, an island off the southeast coast of County Wexford, Ireland. The lighthouse was built between 1812 and 1815 and was completed in 1815.

The lighthouse is a cylindrical tower with a balcony and lantern, marking the white tower and lantern with a red lantern rail. It has been automated since 1993 and features a Chance Brothers 500mm annular lens and a 1 kilowatt lamp, providing a range of 24 nautical miles. The lighthouse is listed as CIL-0470 by the Commissioners of Irish Lights.

Tuskar Rock Lighthouse has a notorious history, with the rocks having destroyed more ships than any other Irish coastal feature. In 1812, a storm struck the island, killing 14 workmen who were constructing the lighthouse. The surviving workers clung to the rocks for two days before being rescued. The lighthouse has also been linked to the Tuskar Rock air disaster in 1968, when an Aer Lingus flight crashed into the sea, resulting in the loss of all 61 people on board.
