Arenas Blancas

The Arenas Blancas Lighthouse is located on the Canary island of La Palma in the municipality of Villa de Mazo, near the village of La Salemera. The lighthouse was built in 1993 and stands on a cliff approximately eight meters above sea level, next to the Atlantic Ocean. It has a focal height of 46 meters and a range of 20 nautical miles. The lighthouse is a cylindrical tower with a spherical roof, made of concrete and marked with a white color.

The lighthouse is an active aid to navigation, operated and maintained by the Comisión de faros. It is one of four main lighthouses on La Palma, each marking a different quadrant of the island. The lighthouse has an occulting light characteristic, consisting of a pattern of three flashes of white light every eight seconds. The need for the lighthouse was identified in the third maritime lighting plan for the Canaries in 1989, as a navigation aid for coastal shipping on the east coast of the island.

The Arenas Blancas Lighthouse is considered to be of a striking modern design, with a 38-meter-high concrete tower and fluted sides. The light shines from a horizontal opening on the seaward side. The lighthouse is registered under the international number D2849.51 and has the national identifier of 13025. It is an important aid to navigation for ships passing along the east coast of La Palma, and its modern design makes it a notable landmark on the island.
