The Bjargtangar Lighthouse is located on the cliffs of Látrabjarg in northwestern Iceland, marking the westernmost point of Iceland and the westernmost building of Europe. It was first established in 1913, but the present tower was built in 1948. The lighthouse is a two-story square prism building made of concrete, painted entirely white, and stands at a height of 6 meters with a focal height of 60 meters above the sea.
The lighthouse has a unique characteristic, emitting a flashing white light every 15 seconds. The lantern house is situated on the second floor, facing the sea, and guides vessels through the treacherous waters of the Westfjords peninsula. Although the site is open to visitors, access to the lighthouse is difficult due to its remote location.
The Bjargtangar Lighthouse has an interesting history, having been rebuilt in 1948, and its location makes it a significant landmark in Iceland. The lighthouse is still operational, serving as an important aid to navigation for ships passing through the area. Its unique location and historic significance make it a notable attraction in Iceland's Westfjords region.
