The Bjørnøy Lighthouse is located in Bodø Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is situated on the small island of Bjørnøya, approximately 16 kilometers north of the town of Bodø and 3 kilometers southeast of Landegode Lighthouse. The lighthouse stands on a 7.6-meter tall concrete tower and has a unique lighting system that displays white, red, or green light depending on the direction, occulting twice every 7.5 seconds.
The current lighthouse was built in 1972 to replace the original structure that was constructed in 1890. The original lighthouse was a stone base with a keeper's house and a red light portion, and it was in use for over 80 years. The old building still stands near the new concrete tower. The lighthouse is an important aid to navigation in the area, and its elevation of 41.3 meters above sea level makes it a prominent landmark.
The Bjørnøy Lighthouse has an interesting history, having been in operation for over a century. The original building was replaced by a new, automated tower in 1972, marking a significant change in the lighthouse's operation. Today, the lighthouse continues to serve as a vital aid to navigation, guiding mariners safely through the waters off the coast of Norway.
