The Cap d'Artrutx Lighthouse is located on the low-lying headland of the same name on the Spanish island of Menorca, in the Balearic Islands. It was completed in 1859 and has a cylindrical tower with buttresses, a double balcony, and a lantern. The tower stands at a height of 34 meters and has a focal height of 45 meters above sea level.
The lighthouse has undergone significant changes over the years. Initially, the tower was much shorter, but it was increased in height in 1969 to its current structure. The lighthouse was automated in 1980, and the keeper's accommodation was converted into a restaurant. The lighthouse can be visited when the restaurant is open, although the tower itself is closed. The light displays a pattern of three white flashes every 10 seconds and can be seen for 18 nautical miles.
The Cap d'Artrutx Lighthouse has an interesting history. It was designed by architect Emili Pou and was equipped with a 4th order Fresnel lens when it first became operational in July 1859. The lighthouse has been declared a registered historical site, and it marks the eastern side of the Menorca Channel, a strait that separates Majorca and Menorca. The lighthouse is still an active aid to navigation, and its unique shape and stunning location make it a popular tourist destination.
