Ciutadella

The Ciutadella Lighthouse, also known as Punta de Sa Farola or Sa Farola Lighthouse, is located on the Spanish island of Menorca. It was originally completed in 1863 and has undergone several modifications since then. The lighthouse is situated close to the seaward entrance of the port of Ciutadella, at the western end of the island.

The lighthouse is a cylindrical tower with a height of 13 meters and a focal height of 21 meters above sea level. It has a distinctive white tower with black stripes and a range of 14 nautical miles. The light source is a 150-watt lamp with a 400mm diameter Fresnel lens, displaying a white flash every six seconds. The lighthouse is still active and has been electrified since 1918.

The Ciutadella Lighthouse has an interesting history, having been designed by architect Emili Pou and initially equipped with a 6th order Catadioptric lens. Over the years, it has faced challenges due to its exposed position, including flooding during heavy storms. In 2005, it was declared a registered historical site, and in 2010, it was featured on a set of commemorative stamps. Despite plans to convert it into a hotel in 2015, the lighthouse remains in its original purpose, marking the entrance to the old port of Ciutadella.
