Cape Liptrap Lighthouse

The Cape Liptrap Lighthouse is located on the rocky cliff top of the Cape Liptrap peninsula in Victoria, Australia, and it serves as a warning to ships of the treacherous rocks in Bass Strait. The lighthouse was first established in 1913 as a 2.1 meter steel tower with an acetylene light, making it the first automatic Commonwealth funded light to be put into service.

The current lighthouse was built in 1951 and is a square tower made of cast concrete with a height of 9.75 meters. It has a white tower and lantern, and its light characteristic is one flash every 12 seconds, emitted from a height of 93.6 meters above sea level. The lighthouse was automated in 1951 and was later converted to electrical power in 1970. It is managed by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority and has a range of 18 nautical miles.

The Cape Liptrap Lighthouse has an interesting history, having been built to warn ships of the dangers of Bass Strait. The lighthouse has undergone changes over the years, including the conversion to electrical power, but it continues to serve its purpose as an important aid to navigation for ships in the area. Its square tower with balcony and lantern is a distinctive feature of the landscape, and it is an important part of the maritime history of Victoria.
