Cape Schanck Lighthouse

The Cape Schanck Lighthouse is located in Victoria, Australia, on the Mornington Peninsula, at the southernmost tip of the cape. It was built in 1859 as the second coastal lighthouse in the Australian state of Victoria. The 21-meter tall tower was constructed from limestone and features a conical shape with a balcony and lantern. The lighthouse's focal plane is situated 100 meters above sea level and has a light characteristic of the Morse code letter "N", with a range of 26 nautical miles.

The lighthouse is significant not only because it was one of the first in Victoria, but also because it was Australia's first lighthouse tower with stone stairs. Over the years, the facility has undergone restoration, particularly during the 1970s and 1980s, and has become a popular tourist attraction. Today, the old assistants' quarters have been converted into a museum, and the old residences of the lighthouse keeper are available for accommodation.

The Cape Schanck Lighthouse is currently managed by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority and remains an important part of Victoria's maritime history. Its powerful lantern, which was installed in 1915, features a first-order Fresnel lens, producing a light intensity of one million candela. The lighthouse's unique history and stunning location make it a fascinating destination for visitors, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
