Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse

Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse is a historic lighthouse located in Cape Naturaliste, Western Australia. The lighthouse was built in 1904 and stands 20 meters tall, with a cylindrical limestone tower and a balcony and lantern on top. It features a first-order Fresnel lens made by Chance Brothers, which is still in use today.

The lighthouse is situated on the south west coast of Western Australia, near Bunker Bay, where the limestone for its construction was quarried. It was automated in 1978, but a lighthouse keeper remained on site until 1996. The lighthouse has been listed on the State Register of Heritage Places since 2003 and is managed by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority.

The lighthouse has an interesting history, with two precious lens optics on display, including a second-order Fresnel lens from the Jarman Island Light and the original Great Sandy Islands beacon. Both of these lenses were originally used on the Pilbara coast further north. Today, the Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse is a significant tourist attraction and a must-visit for anyone interested in maritime history and architecture.
