The Eigerøy Lighthouse is located in Rogaland, Norway, on the small island of Midbrødøya, immediately west of the island of Eigerøya in Eigersund Municipality. The lighthouse was established in 1854 and is Norway's first cast iron lighthouse. Its construction was a success, leading to the building of many more cast iron lighthouses along the Norwegian coastline.
The lighthouse features a tapered cylindrical tower that is 32.9 meters tall, with a light that sits at an elevation of 46.5 meters above sea level. The light emits three white flashes every 30 seconds and uses a 1st order Fresnel lens, producing a 3,905,000-candela light that can be seen from all directions for up to 18.8 nautical miles. The tower is attached to a 2-story service building and is painted red with one white horizontal band.
The Eigerøy Lighthouse was automated in 1989 and is currently under the control of the Kystverket. It is accessible by road and the tower is open for touring on Sundays in July, with a limited number of tours available. The lighthouse has played a significant role in Norway's maritime history, and its unique cast iron construction makes it a notable landmark in the region.
