The Farol de Montedor lighthouse is located in the municipality of Viana do Castelo in Portugal, situated on a promontory in the parish of Carreço. It was built in 1910 and is the northernmost lighthouse in Portugal, standing 28 meters tall with a focal height of 103 meters. The lighthouse features a 3rd-order Fresnel lens and has a range of 22 nautical miles.

The lighthouse has a rich history, with plans for its construction dating back to 1758. However, it wasn't until the completion of the Lighthouse and Beacon Plan on the Coast of Portugal that the project moved forward. The lighthouse was designed by engineer José Ribeiro de Almeida and was opened for testing in March 1910. Over the years, the lighthouse has undergone several improvements, including the installation of a 3rd-order Fresnel lens, the introduction of incandescence produced by oil vapor, and the use of a halogen lamp.

Today, the Farol de Montedor lighthouse is automated, having been converted in 1987. The lighthouse has played a significant role in supporting navigation in the region and continues to be an important aid to mariners. Its history and significance make it a notable landmark in Portugal, and it remains an important part of the country's maritime heritage. Despite the automation, the lighthouse remains a notable structure, with its characteristic two white flashes every 9.5 seconds, guiding navigators through the Atlantic Ocean.

Description
The '''Montedor Lighthouse''' () is located on the Atlantic Ocean on a promontory in the parish of Carreço in the municipality of Viana do Castelo in Portugal. It is the northernmost lighthouse in Portugal, situated north of the mouth of the Lima River and south of the mouth of the Minho River. It was opened on 20 March 1910. ==History== In the second half of the 18th century, the lack of lights to support navigation led to a plan to build six lighthouses in Portugal and one was first planned for this site in 1758. However, repeated postponements meant that none of these lighthouses would be constructed until much later. The Montedor Lighthouse only began to be realised after completion of the Lighthouse and Beacon Plan on the Coast of Portugal, for which was the main author. The engineer, José Ribeiro de Almeida, was commissioned to design it in 1903, after the location had been finalised. The main work was completed in 1908, with the lighthouse being opened for testing in March 1910. This was one of eight lighthouses planned by Xavier.
