The Île d'Yeu Lighthouse is located on the Île d'Yeu in France. It was constructed in 1950 and is the third lighthouse to serve the site. The current structure is 125 feet tall, designed in the Art Deco style, and made of concrete with a white and black lantern and a base built of grey stone.
The first lighthouse at the site was built in 1830, a masonry building that stood 108 feet tall, but it was destroyed by German troops near the end of World War II. A temporary tower replaced it until the current one was completed. The lighthouse has a long history, with attempts to place a signal light on the island dating back to the 18th century. In 1765, an engineer tried to place a lantern on the belfry of the Church of Saint-Sauveur, but it was unsuccessful.
The Île d'Yeu Lighthouse is currently in use, serving as an important landmark for sailors. The lighthouse is surrounded by several one-storey keeper's dwellings and other outbuildings that serve the station. The lighthouse has undergone several changes and repairs over the years, with the state subsidizing some of the repairs in the 19th century. Today, the lighthouse remains an important part of the island's history and a vital aid to navigation.
