L'Armendèche Lighthouse is located along the coast of the Vendée department in France, specifically in La Chaume, a district of Les Sables-d'Olonne. The lighthouse was constructed in 1968 and is a hexagonal concrete tower with a lantern and gallery, designed in the Art Deco style. It stands at a height of 38.96 meters and features a white tower with a red lantern.
The lighthouse was built in response to criticisms from local sailors who had difficulty seeing the harbor lights at the entrance to the town harbor due to development along the shoreline. It was designed by local architect Maurice Durand and was the last major lighthouse to be constructed on French territory. The light from the lighthouse shows three white flashes in a two-one pattern every fifteen seconds and has a range of 22.5 nautical miles.
L'Armendèche Lighthouse is currently automated and is controlled from Les Sables-d'Olonne. It is owned by the government and is not open to visitors. The lighthouse was listed as a monument in 2012 and remains a significant landmark along the French coast.
