Jakarta West Mole

The Jakarta West Mole Lighthouse, also known as the Sunda Kelapa Lighthouse, is a historic lighthouse located in Jakarta, Indonesia. Established in the mid-19th century, it is one of the oldest modern lighthouses in the country. The lighthouse was built in 1862 over the western mole of the old port of Batavia, serving as a guiding light for ships entering the harbor. Strategically located about 2.5 kilometers north of the Sunda Kelapa port, the lighthouse was the northernmost point of Batavia at the time of its completion.

The lighthouse has a round stone tower, painted white, with a height of 16 meters and a focal plane of 17 meters. It features two windows and a red flash every 3 seconds. At the floor of the lighthouse is a stone with Chinese writing, indicating the absolute zero longitude of Batavia, which was used to map the entire area of the Dutch East Indies. The lighthouse also houses an antique chronometer. After being used until the 1990s, the lighthouse was recently restored, but it is now partly hidden by new office buildings and a seawall.

Description
The lighthouse was used until the 1990s. Recently, the lighthouse was restored. With the redevelopment of the modern Muara Baru fish harbor, the lighthouse is partly hidden by a number of new office buildings and the tall seawall. The ground surrounding the tower has been levelled higher, so the tower currently sits lower than the rest of the ground.
