The Jazirat Halul Lighthouse is situated on Halul Island, which is one of the most important islands in the State of Qatar, approximately 90 kilometers northeast of Doha. The island has an area of 1.57 square kilometers and is home to a storage area and loading terminal for oil from surrounding offshore fields. A base for the Qatari Navy and the Coasts and Borders Security is also located on the island.
The Jazirat Halul Lighthouse itself is a short cylindrical tower with a lantern, indicating the presence of a navigational aid for ships in the area. The island has a long history, with pearling boats frequenting it in the early 1900s. The first known discovery of the island was documented by James Ashley Maude in July 1817, who referred to it as "Hawlool Island". Maude noted the island's proximity to extensive pearling beds and described it as being high in the center with no trees or vegetation.
The island's strategic location and natural resources made it a significant point of interest for explorers and cartographers, with the first map of the island being produced by Captain George Barnes Brucks in 1823. Today, the Jazirat Halul Lighthouse remains a notable landmark on the island, serving as a guide for ships navigating the waters of the Persian Gulf. While the current status of the lighthouse is not specified, its historical significance and continued presence on the island make it an important part of Qatar's maritime heritage.
