The Jazirat Kubbar Lighthouse is located on a small sandy island of the same name, situated roughly 30 kilometers off the southern coast of Kuwait in the Persian Gulf. The island is nearly circular, with a diameter of 370 to 380 meters, and is covered with shrub. The lighthouse itself is a square pyramidal tower with a balcony and lantern, built on a concrete base with a metal skeletal structure.
The tower is marked with black and white horizontal bands, making it a distinctive feature of the island. While the exact year the lighthouse was built is not specified, the island has a notable history, having been the site of burials for around six Iraqi soldiers killed in the Gulf War of 1991. The island is also recognized for its environmental significance, being a popular spot for scuba divers due to the surrounding coral reefs.
The island has been recognized as an Important Bird Area by BirdLife International, supporting a breeding colony of white-cheeked terns. The Jazirat Kubbar Lighthouse and the island it stands on are currently uninhabited, but remain an important location for both its historical and environmental significance.
