Kalsholmen Lighthouse is located in Meløy Municipality in Nordland county, Norway, on the small island of Kalsholmen. The lighthouse was first established in 1916 on the islet of Tennholmen but was destroyed by a windstorm in 1917. It was then rebuilt on Kalsholmen in 1919.
The lighthouse is a white tower with a red top, standing at a height of 13.5 meters, with a focal height of 30.5 meters above sea level. The light has an intensity of 28,800 candelas and can be seen for up to 13.5 nautical miles. The light is occulting, meaning it flashes twice every 8 seconds, and its color depends on the direction, being white, red, or green.
The lighthouse was automated in 1993 and remains in operation to this day. Its history is marked by the challenges of being located in a remote and exposed area, having to be rebuilt after being destroyed by a windstorm. Kalsholmen Lighthouse plays an important role in guiding ships and vessels through the coastal waters of Norway, and its unique location and features make it a notable landmark in the region.
