Keri Lighthouse

The Keri Lighthouse is a significant landmark located on Keri Island in the Gulf of Finland, Estonia. The current lighthouse was built in 1858, standing at a height of 31 meters (101 feet) above sea level. It features a distinctive two-stage cylindrical tower with a balcony and lantern, atop a stone cylinder basement with a cast iron tower.

The lighthouse has an interesting history, with the original wooden structure dating back to 1724. It was rebuilt with a stone base and wooden tower in the early 19th century. The lighthouse made history in 1907-1912 by being the only one in the world to be powered by natural gas. In 1990, the stone base began to collapse, requiring steel reinforcements, and in 2007, an internet camera was installed. Today, the lighthouse is computer-controlled, powered by solar cells and batteries.

The Keri Lighthouse is an important aid to navigation, with a range of 11 nautical miles. It features a unique light sequence, with 13 seconds of darkness followed by 2 seconds of light. In 2003, the Estonian Post Office issued a stamp commemorating the lighthouse.
