Naissaar Lighthouse is a prominent landmark located on the Estonian island of Naissaar in the Gulf of Finland. The lighthouse has a rich history dating back to 1788, when the first beacons were built on the northernmost and southernmost points of the island. The current lighthouse, a 45-meter reinforced concrete structure, was built in 1960 and features an octagonal prism tower with a double balcony and lantern. The lighthouse stands 47.6 meters tall and is painted white on the lower two-thirds and red on the upper one-third.
The Naissaar Lighthouse has undergone several transformations over the years. The original stone lighthouse was destroyed during World War II, and a temporary wooden lighthouse operated from 1946 to 1960. The current lighthouse was automated in 2004, marking the end of the lighthouse's keeper service. In 1999, the lantern room was installed, completing the structure's traditional style inspired by Estonian lighthouses.
Today, the Naissaar Lighthouse serves as a vital aid to navigation in the Gulf of Finland, with a range of 12 nautical miles. Its unique design and rich history make it a significant landmark in the region.
