La Rocchetta Lighthouse

La Rocchetta Lighthouse is located in Piombino, Tuscany, Italy, overlooking the Piombino Channel which separates the island of Elba from the mainland. The lighthouse was built in 1928 on the site of a former defensive fortification that was demolished in the 1920s to make way for a town square.

The lighthouse features a quadrangular grey stone tower in Neo Gothic style, standing at a height of 5 meters with a castellated balcony and light atop. The light is positioned 18 meters above sea level and emits three white flashes in a 15-second period, visible up to a distance of 11 nautical miles.

The lighthouse is currently active and completely automated, managed by the Marina Militare with the identification code number 2098 E.F. Its interesting history dates back to the 1920s when the former fortification was demolished to make room for the lighthouse and a panoramic town square.
