Nugget Point Lighthouse is located in the Otago region of the South Island of New Zealand. The lighthouse was built from 1869 to 1870 and first lit on 4 July 1870. It was constructed from locally quarried stone and features a cylindrical tower with a balcony and lantern attached to a one-story building. The tower stands at a height of 9 meters and has a focal height of 76 meters.

The lighthouse has undergone several changes over the years. It was originally powered by an oil burner, which was replaced with an electric lamp in 1949. The electric lamp was powered by a diesel generator, which was later replaced by a connection to the mains grid. The light was fully automated in 1989 and is now monitored and managed from a Maritime New Zealand control room in Wellington. In 2006, the original light was replaced with an LED beacon, and in 2020, the lighthouse was solarized and is now powered by solar energy with no mains power.

The lighthouse has an interesting history, with the lighting apparatus initially intended for the lighthouse at Cape Saunders. The lighthouse was designed by James Balfour, and the lighting apparatus was installed after being brought to New Zealand on the same ship as Balfour in 1863. Today, the lighthouse is owned and operated by Maritime New Zealand and is an important aid to navigation in the region. The lighthouse is still operational and continues to guide mariners safely through the coastal waters of New Zealand.
