Pine Islet Light

The lighthouse, also known as Percy Isles Light, stands on Pine Islet, one of the Percy Isles in the Northumberland Islands, about 130 km southeast of Mackay in Queensland.

The original tower is a conical structure with a double balcony and lantern, built on a timber frame and clad in galvanized iron plates. Its exterior is painted white with a red lantern dome. The tower rises 35 ft and its light originally displayed a range of 20 nmi. The original apparatus was a second‑order revol.

The light was first proposed in 1881 and again in 1882, with tenders called in 1883. The contract was awarded to W. P. Clark, who completed the prefabricated tower and exhibited it on 18 July 1885. The lamp initially ran on kerosene and remained so even after electricity arrived in 1950. Upgrades to the light source were made in 1923 and to the apparatus in 1934. After a century of service the station was deactivated in 1985, making it the last kerosene‑powered lighthouse in Australia. The tower was then moved to Mackay Marina, where reconstruction continued from 1989 to 1995 and restored the lighthouse to full working condition.

At the original site a modern 20‑ft fiberglass tower now serves as a daymark, and a solar‑powered VRB‑25 beacon provides the navigational signal. The site is not accessible to the public. The historic tower, now at Mackay Marina, remains operational as a kerosene‑burning lighthouse.
