The Pulau Rimau Lighthouse is located on an islet off the southeastern tip of Penang Island in Malaysia. The islet is situated nearly 832 meters from Penang Island and is now home to an active lighthouse. The lighthouse was built by the British in 1885 and serves as a beacon for vessels entering the Penang Strait from the south.
The Pulau Rimau Lighthouse is a 17-meter round cylindrical cast iron tower with lantern and gallery, as well as a single-storey house for the lightkeeper. The lighthouse is still active today, guiding ships and vessels through the Penang Strait. The islet itself is uninhabited, but the lighthouse has played an important role in the region's maritime history.
The Pulau Rimau Lighthouse has a fascinating history, with the islet once being referred to by French cartographers as Île Cayment. The lighthouse has been in operation for over 130 years, and its round cylindrical design has withstood the test of time. Today, the Pulau Rimau Lighthouse remains a vital aid to navigation, and its rich history and stunning location make it a notable landmark in the region.
