The Punta de Arinaga Lighthouse is located in Agüimes, on the island of Gran Canaria, in the Canary Islands, Spain. It was first constructed in 1897 as part of the initial maritime lighting plan for the Canaries, with subsequent towers built in the 1960s and 1984. The current lighthouse is a 14-meter high, cylindrical tower with a distinctive red and white striped design, featuring a lantern room that emits both red and white light.
The lighthouse has a focal height of 47 meters above sea level and its light can be seen for 12 nautical miles. It is powered by six solar panels and is not connected to the electricity grid. The Punta de Arinaga Lighthouse is an active aid to navigation, managed by the Autoridad Portuaria de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. It marks the coastline between the Maspalomas Lighthouse to the south and the Punta de Melenara Lighthouse to the north.
The Punta de Arinaga Lighthouse has an interesting history, with the original 1897 tower being replaced in the 1960s by a taller structure, which was later removed during a refurbishment. The current tower was built in 1984 and has been in service since then, providing an important navigational aid to mariners in the area. Its unique design and location make it a notable landmark on the island of Gran Canaria.
