South Neptune Island Lighthouse

The South Neptune Island Lighthouse is located on the South Neptune Islands in South Australia, near the entrance to Spencer Gulf. The lighthouse was first lit on November 1, 1901, but it was replaced with a new tower in the 1980s. The old tower was relocated to Port Adelaide and is now part of the South Australian Maritime Museum's collection. The new lighthouse was automated in 1990 and stands at a height of 8 meters (26 feet) with a focal height of 43 meters (141 feet).

The lighthouse has a cylindrical tower with a balcony and lantern, and it is marked by an unpainted tower with a white lantern and balcony. It has a range of 26 kilometers (16 miles) and an intensity of 24,000 cd. The characteristic of the lighthouse is a three-flash white light with a 20-second cycle.

The remains of the original lighthouse, along with its attached keepers' cottages and other structures, have been listed on the South Australian Heritage Register since 1994. The site is significant for its relatively intact lighthouse complex, which provides a glimpse into the maritime history of the region. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority is responsible for managing the lighthouse, which is still operational today.
