The Troubridge Island Lighthouse is a historic decommissioned lighthouse located on Troubridge Island in South Australia, approximately 74 kilometers southwest of Adelaide and 8 kilometers southeast of Edithburgh on Yorke Peninsula. The lighthouse was built in 1856 to reduce ship losses caused by stranding on the Troubridge Shoals. It features a cast-iron cylindrical tower with a balcony and lantern, standing at 24 meters high with a focal height of 25 meters.
The lighthouse was automated in 1981 and decommissioned in 2001, with its navigation aid role taken over by the Troubridge Hill Lighthouse. The lighthouse is now a state heritage place, recognized since 1982. A notable aspect of the lighthouse's history is that it was home to Czech-born surrealist artist Voitre Marek, who lived there with his family as a lighthouse keeper from 1957 until 1960.
Today, the Troubridge Island Lighthouse remains a significant landmark, offering a glimpse into the region's maritime past. Its striking red and white color scheme and distinctive shape make it a recognizable feature of the South Australian coastline. While its role as a navigation aid is no longer active, the lighthouse continues to be an important part of the state's cultural and historical heritage.
