Yeşilköy Feneri, also known as Ayostefanos Feneri, is a historical lighthouse located in the Yeşilyurt neighborhood of Istanbul's Bakırköy district, Turkey. The lighthouse was built in 1856 by French engineers and was initially called Hagios Stefanos Lighthouse after the suburb's former name. It was commissioned by Ottoman Sultan Abdülmecid I to provide safe navigation around the shallow waters before the Yeşilköy Point for ships sailing towards Istanbul.
The lighthouse is an octagonal prism tower with two stages, constructed on a platform to elevate it above sea level. The tower is 16 meters tall and has a focal height of 23 meters. It is painted entirely white and features a gallery encircling the lantern room, as well as a flag post atop the tower's cupola. The lighthouse was put into service on January 5, 1857, and is still in use today, guiding ships through the northern coast of the Sea of Marmara.
Yeşilköy Feneri is a significant historical landmark and an important aid to navigation in the region. Today, the lighthouse remains an important part of Istanbul's maritime heritage, and its history and significance continue to be celebrated by locals and visitors alike.
