The Cape du Couedic Lighthouse is located in Flinders Chase, on Kangaroo Island, in South Australia. It was built in 1909 and features a sandstone tower with a conical shape, balcony, and lantern. The lighthouse stands at a height of 25 meters and has a focal height of 103 meters. It was automated in 1957 and has a light intensity of 38,000 cd.
The lighthouse has an interesting history, with construction beginning in 1906 and completing in 1909. A jetty was built in Weirs Cove, a mile north of the lighthouse, to facilitate the delivery of materials, and a flying fox was erected to haul them up the 85-meter cliff. The tower and keepers' cottages were constructed from 2000 pieces of local stone, and the lighthouse was fitted with a Chance Brothers lantern and First Order lens.
The Cape du Couedic Lighthouse is currently a state heritage place, listed since 24 July 1980. It is managed by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority and is an important part of South Australia's maritime history. The lighthouse has undergone significant events over the years, including the takeover by the Commonwealth Government in 1917 and the first visit by a motor vehicle in 1940.
