The Kiama Light, also known as the Kiama Harbour Light, is an active lighthouse located in Kiama, New South Wales, Australia. It is situated close to the Kiama Blowhole on Blowhole Point, south of Kiama Harbour. The lighthouse was built in 1887 and features a cylindrical tower with a balcony and lantern, made of concrete-clad brick. The tower stands at a height of 51 feet and has a focal height of 119 feet.
The lighthouse has undergone several upgrades and changes throughout its history. It was initially powered by an oil burner and later upgraded to coal gas and then acetylene gas. In 1920, the light was automated and the characteristic was changed to a group flashing. The lighthouse was further upgraded in 1969 with the introduction of mains electricity and a battery backup system. Today, the lighthouse is managed by Transport for NSW and serves as a navigational aid for mariners.
The Kiama Light has an interesting history, with the original principal keeper's house being destroyed by vandals in the 1920s. The assistant keeper's house was later used as a pilot's cottage and now serves as a museum and tourist information centre. The lighthouse itself is surrounded by a hexagonal fence and features an artistic railing at the top. The current light source is a quartz halogen lamp, with an intensity of 28,000 candela and a range of 16 nautical miles.
