Lille Torungen Lighthouse is located on the island of Lille Torungen in the municipality of Arendal in Agder county, Norway. The lighthouse was built in 1844, along with the nearby Store Torungen Lighthouse, to mark the entrance from the Skaggerak to the town of Arendal. The original lighthouse was a 29-meter tall, round, brick tower that was white with a small red stripe and a red top.
The current lighthouse is 6 meters tall and has a white structure with a red roof, sitting atop a square, black, metal frame. The light is elevated 9 meters above sea level and emits a white, red, or green light, depending on direction, occulting twice every 9 seconds. The light can be seen for up to 3.7 nautical miles. Although the lighthouse is no longer in use, the site is accessible by boat and is open to the public, although the buildings are not.
The lighthouse has an interesting history, having been replaced in 1914 with an automated tower. The old tower was saved from being torn down thanks to the efforts of the municipal residents. The lighthouse, along with the Store Torungen Lighthouse, was also featured on the coat of arms of the local municipality of Hisøy from 1881 until 1992. Today, the Lille Torungen Lighthouse stands as a historic landmark and a testament to the maritime history of the region.
