Mauger Caye Light

Mauger Caye Light is a lighthouse located on Mauger Caye, the northernmost island in the Turneffe Cays archipelago, 30 kilometers east of Belize's coast. Built in 1878, the structure features a 19-meter-high white framework tower with a watch room and gallery at the top. The lighthouse has a focal height of 19 meters above sea level and a range of 13 nautical miles, emitting a pattern of two flashes of white light every ten seconds.

The lighthouse is operated and maintained by the port authority of Belize and is registered under the Admiralty number J5940. It has withstood harsh weather conditions, including Hurricane Keith, which damaged the island and exposed the roots of palm trees. The surrounding coral reef makes the island a popular dive site, accessible by boat from Belize.

Mauger Caye Light is one of several lighthouses built on the cays in Belize's coastal waters. The lighthouse's name originates from the Creole word for meagre, and its design is notable for its 19-meter height and square pyramidal shape. The structure has been well-maintained, allowing it to continue serving as a vital aid to navigation in the region.
