The Sandbore Caye Light is a lighthouse located at the north end of the Lighthouse Reef in Belize, approximately 74 kilometers from Belize City. The lighthouse was first established in 1886 with a skeletal tower that stood 20 meters high. However, this was replaced in 1931 with a similar tower that was slightly higher, at 21 meters.
The current lighthouse is a square pyramidal tower with a balcony, standing 25 meters high with a focal height of 25 meters. It has a distinctive red and white color scheme, with a red tower and a white upper band, as well as a white balcony. The lighthouse emits a white flash every 10 seconds, serving as an important aid to navigation for mariners in the area.
The Sandbore Caye Light has undergone changes over the years, with the current tower being the third iteration of the lighthouse. Despite its remote location, the lighthouse is an important part of Belize's maritime history and continues to play a vital role in ensuring the safety of ships and sailors in the region. With its unique design and storied past, the Sandbore Caye Light is a notable landmark in Belize.
