New Caloundra Light

New Caloundra Light is a former lighthouse located in Caloundra, Queensland, Australia. The tower was constructed in 1967 and became operational in 1968. It features a unique design, resembling an airport control tower, and stands at a height of 46 feet (52 meters) with a focal height of 52 meters. The lighthouse was initially used as a coastal light but was downgraded to a harbour light in 1978 due to surrounding building growth.

The New Caloundra Light served as a main aid to navigation from 1968 to 1992, with a range of 24 nautical miles. It was equipped with a unique revolving table for the light source, consisting of sealed beam lamps with red and green sectors. The lighthouse was automated in 1968 but was staffed due to the presence of a signal station.

Today, the New Caloundra Light remains in its original location but is no longer operational. The tower stands next to the relocated Old Caloundra Light, which was moved in 1970 to avoid demolition. The New Caloundra Light is a significant example of Australia's lighthouse heritage and its unique design makes it a notable feature in the region.
