The Reading Light, also known as Tell Qudadi Light, is an inactive lighthouse located in Tel Aviv, Israel. Built in 1934-1935 by the British authorities, it was constructed to aid ships approaching the shore by navigating through local sandbars. The lighthouse took its name from the nearby Reading Power Station.
The Reading Light is situated near the beach on the north side of the Yarkon River estuary, next to the Tel Aviv Port and the Levant Fair buildings area. Initially, it was marked with a black and white checkerboard pattern, but this has since been replaced with a simple concrete marking. The lighthouse stands at a height of 17 meters (56 feet) and has a square tower shape, although the lantern has been removed.
The Reading Light has a rich history and has played a role in several Israeli films, including "Late Summer Blues." It was also featured on an Israeli stamp issued in 2009. The lighthouse was shut down in 1965 when the port was officially closed, but it remains a notable landmark in Tel Aviv. In 2007, a wooden boardwalk was built around the tell and lighthouse, making it easily accessible to the public.
